Stepping through the gallows, you stumble upon a world both fantastical and terrifying. Permeated with rot and teeming with jubilant green life, the world is a pulsing organism, and something about it urges you forward. From the bones beneath your feet, you fashion yourself a skeletal companion, and continue through damp, haunted woods...

Heartwood Decay is my brand as an artist. I am also known as Bonejunky, Neef, or Edelweiss. I am an artist, writer, and I do music as a hobby. Inspired by the middle ages, Celtic, Greek, and Native American mythos, Baroque and Victorian design, macabre and grotesque tales, whimsical and boundless fantasy worlds, the skeleton, and the human condition. I create Illustrations, comics, graphic novels, short stories, poems, manuscript narratives, character designs, and my greatest passion - complex and original fantasy worlds. Värmäne, the world my graphic novel series The Blackout takes place in, is my most fleshed out world yet. You can explore that world through the novels, the glossaries at the end of the novels, and extra content that I archive here such as historical excerpts, maps, fables, and anatomical charts.

I have great interest in the esoteric. Magic, the cycle of life and death, strange folklore, mysteries, adventure, religion, typograhy and design, romance and cannibalism, philosphy, deep ecology, socialism and communism, I could go on. These subjects are explored in my projects, but I also discuss such things on my public journal (see: nav bar), Substack, and Are.na. I hope to share with my audience of the joy of knowledge and uncovering of the clandestine.

I have been drawing for about eight or nine years now. I mostly work digitally on Clip Studio Paint and Photoshop. Both digitally and traditionally, I preffer to use graphite pencils and colored pencils, textures, and alternating line weights. I work in cartoon and semi-realism depending on the project. I post my comics on my social medias as well as Webtoon and Globalcomix. I self-publish and sell art, short stories, and poetry zines on my Ko-Fi shop. Currently, as of 2026, I go to community college for illustration and animation.

On a professional level, it is my dream to make a living off of my own graphic novels, and one day have my own studio where I can publish novels and create TV series and films. Right now, I am working to get into making book covers, doing commissions, and selling zines.
